Questo sentiero collega i parchi a ovest di Milano e attraversa: il parco Alto Milanese, il parco del Roccolo e il Parco Agricolo Sud Milano. Da qui è possibile continuare ad andare con la bici o a piedi ancora più verso sud, seguendo un tracciato già segnalato che porta a Zibido San Giacomo.
Questo tracciato è interessante perché è una utile strada che connette il percorso ciclabile sul Naviglio Grande a quello sul canale Villoresi e viceversa. Non solo, congiunge le realtà naturali dalla zona ovest della provincia di Milano come il bosco di Cusago e il fontanile nuovo. È inoltre una strada di connessione ai parchi che si sviluppa su strade sterrate e su strade con divieto di accesso per le auto dei non residenti.

Arrivati ad Abbiategrasso, il Naviglio Grande e la sua strada alzaia deviano uscendo dal Parco del Ticino, addentrandosi nel territorio del Parco Agricolo Sud Milano. Il percorso si conclude nella città di Milano seguendo il Naviglio Grande fino a Porta Ticinese. L'itinerario può essere percorso anche solo in parte, partendo da una delle località toccate.
